The January 2025 Palisades Fire moved through on extreme coastal winds. For homes left standing, the threat was never the flame front. It was the ember cast running ahead of it, landing on roofs and drawing into attic vents across 90272.
The Alphabet Streets, Marquez Knolls, the Highlands, Rustic Canyon, Castellammare and the Riviera each sit differently against the canyon and the coast, and the wind does not treat them the same. Canyon-adjacent lots take a concentrated ember load that flatter streets do not.
Two things drive the specification here. Pacific Palisades is City of Los Angeles under the Los Angeles Fire Department in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, so Chapter 7A applies to exterior materials. And marine air means corrosion resistance is not optional on the mesh or the fasteners.
The Palisades sits between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific, and both matter to the specification. Canyon topography at Rustic Canyon and above Castellammare accelerates wind and concentrates the ember load. Marine air then attacks the hardware you install to stop it. A vent that is fire-rated but not corrosion-resistant will degrade here in a way it never would inland, which is why the assembly matters as much as the rating.
